Night Owl's Revenge

Happy New Year! I’m a little late but I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with friends and family. 2011 was certainly a year of triumphs and struggles. Another chapter in the novel of my life and I wouldn’t change a thing. 

I got really excited about 2012 a few days before New Year’s Eve. I don’t know why, but I have this feeling that it’s going to be an amazing year. School started January 3rd, and it was great to see everyone again. The general consensus is that ski trip was amazing and everyone felt like they were already behind in their classes by about lunchtime on day two, lol (I didn’t think that was even possible, but I assure you it is)!

Recruiting is in full swing and my classmates and I are practicing elevator pitches, polishing STAR stories for interviews, and conducting company research for our target firms. As you can imagine this all takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, but I haven’t felt alone in the process. The professional clubs have organized Interview Prep Groups (IPGs) of about 4 first year students led by a wise and battle-tested second year student. I have regular meetings with my group and we help each other complete research, build contact lists, serve as cheerleaders and offer encouragement when needed. I’m learning that this term will be all about finding some sort of balance between classes and looking for an internship, and either choice could easily take over your life.  

Course-wise, I’m taking the next round of core classes this term: Finance, Econ, and DECS II (stats). I’m also taking an elective in media management. I’ll finish up the core in the Spring term when I take Operations.
